ibre!/.hyd (howard kim) is an audiovisual artist and engineer based in Bay Area, CA. 

As a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, ibre!/.hyd began his artistic pursuit in 2015 as a vocalist and music producer, along with his studies in aerospace engineering. Since then, he has continued to grow as an engineer and independent artist, expanding the domain of his artistic expression to other mediums, including visuals, interactive installations, and glass art.

His influences stretch wide, from Miles Davis, Kevin Shields, Chet Baker, Philip Glass, Erykah Badu, Norah Jones, and D'Angelo - to Nam June Paik, Brian Eno, Jackson Pollock and more, without restriction to the artistic field or genre. His aim is to combine the different domains of art and engineering to pieces / experiences that capture essences of modern life, both personal and universal.

Live Audiovisual Performance
First propotype performance of live audiovisual system in progress made by ibre!. 

Live pointcloud visual emitting smoke-like particles, deforming with the low frequency of the music, while notes from MIDI keyboard are instanced as floating shapes. Music performed live using Ableton 12.

BYOB (Bring Your Own Beamer) event, held by Subset and Gray Area.

Six different visual FX displayed on wall, based on live visual input from ipad camera, with controllable parameters using MIDI.

Inspired by Plyzitron, Supermarket Salad, and Alex Xi.

Visual Art
How time fades everything, even the material that we touch dissipate with our memory. Like emotion, the resolution of the objects are broken down as they swirl away and fade into the abyss, losing its reference frame - perhaps the reference is ourselves / (ego), aka the dot in the abyss.

MHNT Exhibition Pieces

MHNT was an art collective based in Champaign, Illinois, led by Eugene Kim (Gyull). Members included Howard Kim (.hyd), Sam Malito, Julian Carter, and TJ Bayowa. 

Exhibition led by the collective was held November 2019, diplaying photography, artwork, and clothing for sale.  

Pictures below are copies of few of the surviving artworks made by .hyd for the MHNT Exhibition. The artworks were made using a typewriter, various types of paper from different sources, lighter, and other miscellaneous equipments.
